In the mood for love is one of the most beautiful movies I have seen .Frames such as the cigarette smoking to beautifying rain droplets all are breathing and alive. They all have so much to say and are so magical. Even little scenes like smoke from noodle has created this dreamy world. In the mood for love is this movie which has this hyper romantic atmosphere and steamy scenes made with barely any physical touch. The interesting quality of how twp people hurt by the betrayal of their respective man and wife gets seduced and in the process the audience is also tempted without it being felt like a revenge.

I love the role playing scenes because it shows how hurt  and lonely the protagonists are and how their common interests bring them closer .The line between reality and acting get merged very slowly and peacefully , It is almost unnoticeable . Long corridors of the hotel with red curtain is beautiful. The hurried and tensed moment of the girl when she walks through the red curtained corridor is smoothly and yet sophisticatedly shot , which according to me is also symbolic to the emptiness in their love life, passage of right or wrong,passage of time  etc.

The sets used a also quite interesting . The place where both couples move is quite interesting in terms of people already residing and new people entering. Place is actually quite claustrophobic which is highlighted with walls and kitchen space and there is very less space to move which is one of the way the 2 protagonists communicate.The period has been fathfully depicted with crammed spaces and stairways.everything is enclosed and silent.

There is this different feel to the film. The way they are shown walking and feeling e think as they are not verything. The deliberateness of their move , the exaggerated sound of their movement , raindrops and other things thats happening when the background music is not playing make the movie more sensory and grasping. The texture  of the film is also dependent on the setting and screen color. The scenes are generally shot in dark and closed spaces and outdoor shooting is generally at night . There is very less number of scenes shot during the day . There are alot of alleyways , corridors and empty paths shot. The feeling of having privacy in an open surrounding is very rarely portrayed in a film.

   The costumes for the 2 protagonist are beautiful and suite their personalities . The actor is a media personnel is always suited up and combed without any exception. The actress is a beautiful secretary , always well dressed and well presented . In the start of the film she is hardly shown wearing any colour. She is always wearing black and white with checks kind of patterns , It is only the first time when they go out to eat that she is shown wearing any colour dress. After which she is shown wearing colours like red. Costumes are also elegant and formal like their relationship in the start .

   There is also this interesting thing where the respective cheating husband and wife are not really shown.Their face have been intentionally masked from viewers because although being the central characters their presence to the story have little significance.The story mainly revolves around their spouses and their developing emotional proximity which was started because of cheating spouses as the loyal ones wanted to enact how it all must have started between the other two.

The screenplay has break at occasions and it is bizarrely edited.It at first seems like a mistake in the movie but as we progress you realise that it is the part of the film and the movie continues from where it has cut.” Instead of asking us to identify with this couple, as an American film would, Wong asks us to empathise with them; that is a higher and more complex assignment, with greater rewards.” (rogerebert) . The deep colours of film saturate the scenes: Reds, yellows, browns, deep shadows. One scene opens with only a coil of cigarette smoke, and then reveals its characters. In the hallway outside the two apartments, the camera slides back and forth, emphasising not their nearness but that there are two apartments, not one. The movement is slow and deliberate and elegant.The pace of the film is also smooth and slow.
